Product Description
One family of silversmiths celebrates the regions, the landmarks, and the history of Italy, but none more than their beloved home town of Florence. Florence is known as the City of Flowers. The fleur de lis flowered is featured on the Florentine coat of arms. It is carved over the city gates and recreated in mosaic courtyards. In this piece, a Coppini family silversmith brought it to life in pale moonlight brass. For your moments of scented luxury, this antique artisan brass perfume funnel is just thing.
Italian Perfume Funnels
More than a century ago, apprentices to the Coppini smithy would hone their skills by making perfume funnels. Each project was small so it required few material resources, but rich in the skills required of a silversmith. They rolled metal for the basin, stretched it for the stem, created molds and cast images to be joined to the basin. In the end, their work was inspected by a master. If it was deemed acceptable, it might be offered to customers. Unacceptable examples went back into the crucible, and the apprentice tried again.
This Florentine Funnel
This artisan brass perfume funnel is a lovely piece of work. The basin measures 30 mm in diameter and the finished piece is 30 mm long (just over an inch) from the rim of the basin to the tip pf the stem. Italian perfume funnels are a little wider in the basin than the English or Mexican perfume funnels. In my experience, the wider basin prevents splashes and spills.
