Artisan copper chinoiserie from deep within the magical realm of 1980s Pop Art. Kurosawa films and Karate Kid head bands; Brilliant neon and the birth of personal tech… It was an era when styles and cultures came crashing together, and the sparks that flew created new art, and new designs to explore. Somewhere in that maelstrom, there was an artist in love.
This piece is all about contrast. The sharp edged kanji brush strokes against the soft, fragrant cherry blossoms. The sharply defined interior design against the scalloped echo of petals at the outer edge. All of these aspects meet in the woman in the middle of it all. The kanji reads: Woman In Love.
The copper chinoiserie brooch measures 40 mm across the circular design. The original pin on the back is straight and the safety clasp is in excellent working order with no signs of repair. It weighs 14 grams overall and sadly, it has no hallmark.
