All the romance, and the solitude, of a maritime life summed up in this thoughtful design: Time At Sea. The base of the box is the color of the ocean under clearing skies after a storm has churned it up. The hand painted enamel design on top is two wooden 3-masted ships under sail, and the beautifully rendered face of a clock.
This is an early (late 1970s) Halcyon Days Revival enamel box, before they incorporated “Halcyon Days” into the makers mark on the bottom. This particular design is one of the first created as part of the Bilston Battersea revival of the enamel art form. You can see from the brush style and the embellishment around the clock face that the style was a tribute to the original patch boxes of the 18th century.
This box is in very good condition, with hinge and closure in good working order. It comes with a Halcyon Days display box, though this is not the original aqua colored display box that a piece from this era would have had.
