Product Description
Struck in Ottoman silver, this gorgeous bracelet shares the story of the Mystic East at the turn of the 20th century. The design features noble elephants, exotic scimitar swords and the hamsa symbol, protection from the Evil Eye.
It’s hard to imagine but in 1900, the World’s Fair and Exposition in Paris was Instagram. Photographs were few and far between, and stories were shared one at a time. Words and mementos painted the picture of where your loved one traveled and the magnificent sights they found. In the era of Bridgerton, “tagging” someone to include them in your journey meant bringing them a gift at the end; A memento from the Turkish Pavilion to show that you were in their heart. This bracelet was a tiny seed of Turkish craftsmanship. Each time it was given, shared or admired, it influenced ideas of Turkey and the mystic East. And in every moment, it carried the message: I am thinking of you.
This Ottoman silver Turkish bracelet measures approximately 7 inches around the wrist on the smallest link. The chain clasp can add another 1.5 inches for a wearable length of 8.5 inches at the longest. The cuff panels and hinges are struck in .900 silver and hallmarked with the Ottoman standard silver mark. At some point, someone added a safety chain in modern silver, and someone else clumsily stained the back by “testing for sterling” because they couldn’t be bothered to properly research this piece. For your reference, this bracelet and it’s hallmark are documented, confirming the age and origin. I can promise you that in my care, this bracelet was polished by hand; No corrosive solvents or dips were used.
