Product Description
Incredibly stylish 1920’s art deco scarab brooch! The shield shape lends itself to the lotus crown and the curved serpents on each side. The center piece is the winged teal green scarab in an open setting, with hieroglyphics engraved on his tummy, so you alone can see them.
The interesting thing about this design is that I have found documentation dating this specific piece as late 1920s – early 1930s, but can’t find any documentation of the designer or the cold pressed brass process that produced it. There were a number of Egyptian revival pieces produced this way – they are light weight and remarkably resistant to tarnish – but beyond that, their story seems to have been lost.
The design measures 50 mm from top to bottom and 40 mm at the widest portion of the shield. Brooch and clasp are in great condition.
