Pairs of lovebirds perch around this simple band, with each pair separated by a graceful vine and a flower blossom. It is a “full hoop,” meaning that the design continues all the way around the band. The size is a tiny 4.5 – 5, and I suspect this piece was made in the 19th or early 20th century when children were often dressed as tiny adults. That would account for the petite size and exquisite detail. The total weight is 3 grams and the band measures 7 mm wide.
For those of you with special dates or occasions coming up: Turtle doves are the emblem of the Roman Goddess Fides, the Goddess of trust and good faith. Perhaps because they form such strong pair bonds, turtle doves have continued to be the emblem of devoted love in many cultures. Silver is the signature gift of the 25th anniversary, often called the Silver Anniversary.
