Product Description
The Sun Dance was the most important ceremony practiced by the Lakota (Sioux) and nearly all the Indigenous Plains tribes. It was a rite of passage and an offering of strength and endurance to honor the sun and receive blessings. A Sun Dancer wore rings of sage on their head and often around their wrists and ankles; each man carried a whistle made from the wing bone of an eagle.
This is a true vintage charm from the 1970s. There was a surge of interest in Native American tribal culture and the mythic images joined a wave of 70’s pop art that seemed to reach… everywhere. The style and weight of this cast silver alloy is unmistakable to anyone who grew up with it.
This sun dancer charm measures approximately 1 inch long and weighs 3.5 grams. As mentioned, this is a silver alloy, set with durable polymer in turquoise blue. The jump ring provided is stainless steel, but if you prefer sterling silver, just let me know when you check out. This piece was polished by hand; No corrosive solvents or dips are used.
**Our unique jewelry is always boxed for shipping.**
Please take your time with the photos and consider them part of the description. Charms are properly installed when the jump ring is soldered closed. Let me know if you have any questions and feel free to check out the many treasured Indigenous motifs available in my shop! Purchases from the WhyteWing website benefit The Trevor Project, but if you are more comfortable shopping through a platform like Etsy, this ceremonial dance charm is listed there as well.
